Bulletproof glass, also called bullet-resistant glass or ballistic glass, is a type of safety glass designed to withstand the impact of bullets and other projectiles. It's constructed from multiple layers of materials like glass and polycarbonate, which work together to absorb and dissipate the energy of a projectile, preventing it from penetrating. Do you know what’s the characteristics and how to choose the bullet proof glass?
1. Thickness range and scene adaptation
Basic thickness range
Bulletproof glass thickness is usually between 18mm–100mm, and the specific selection needs to be combined with protection needs;
2. Key performance characteristics Bulletproof ability is positively correlated with thickness
18mm thickness : Can resist 9mm pistol bullets 39.
29mm thickness : Defense against 5.56mm rifle bullets 310.
≥68mm thickness : Defense against 12.7mm armor-piercing bullets (such as Barrett sniper rifles)
3. Match materials and structures according to scenes
Material type selection : Plain white glass : Transmittance 85%, low cost, suitable for ordinary security (such as shop partitions).
Ultra-white glass: light transmittance ≥ 91.5%, excellent optical performance, used in high-end places (museums, luxury stores)
Core structure design: Three-layer composite laminated glass
Outer layer (bearing layer): high-strength glass (broken bullet)
Middle layer: PVB film (absorbs impact energy)
Inner layer: polycarbonate (PC) (anti-penetration)
Bank counter/jewelry store: 25-28mm
Money transporter: 45-60mm
Government building exterior window: 30-40mm
Border post/military facility: ≥68mm
